Nintendo Hardware Rules U.S. In March. Though Down From 2008

Nintendo’s Wii and DS once again top the hardware sales in the US, selling over 1.16 million units combined. The DSi had a successful launch selling 435,000 as reported by the NPD Group. Full figures after the jump.

Even though Nintendo are still responsible for market growth, year on year figures are down for the company. March 2008 saw a combined sales total of 1.42 million. The only console to have a year-on-year increase was Microsoft’s Xbox 360 with a 26% increase.

The full hardware sales figures for the US are below, as reported by NPD Group:

Wii – 601,000
Nintendo DS – 563,000
Xbox 360 – 330,000
PlayStation 3 – 218,000
PSP – 168,000
PlayStation 2 – 112,000

It will be interesting to see how much, if any, difference the PS2 price cut makes to Aprils figures next month after Sony’s claims that it will have a negative effect on Wii sales.

Software sales for the month were as follows:

Resident Evil 5 (Xbox 360) – 938K
Pokemon Platinum (Nintendo DS) 805K
Halo Wars (Xbox 360) – 639K
Resident Evil 5 (Playstation 3) – 585K
Wii Fit (Nintendo Wii) – 541K
MLB ‘09: The Show (Playstation 3) – 305K
Killzone 2 ((Playstation 3) – 296K
Wii Play (Nintendo Wii) – 281K
Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo Wii) – 278K

MLB 2K9 (Xbox 360) – 205K
