Here’s the official spiel from Activision on the Gold Classic Controller Pro we saw yesterday that will be bundled with Goldeneye.

Nintendo and Activision Unveil Limited Edition Controller Bundle, Giving Gamers the Ultimate 00 Agent ArsenalLondon, UK – 11th August, 2010 – Activision Publishing, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) is giving GoldenEye fans a vintage Bond gaming experience with the GoldenEye 007TM Classic Edition, a game bundle featuring an exclusive gold Classic Controller ProTM. Inspired by the legendary golden gun, the gold controller gives fans and WiiTM gamers an additional control scheme option, allowing them to play with added accessibility – the full bundle will be available this autumn.

“In addition to the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, GoldenEye will also support the Wii Zapper for “point and shoot” gamers, giving players several ways to experience GoldenEye on Wii,” said David Pokress, Head of Marketing for Licensed Properties, Activision Publishing. “We also couldn’t pass up the opportunity to pay homage to the golden gun with the gold Classic Controller Pro, which looks cool and also gives shooter fans a familiar control scheme to use as they blast their way through the game.”

Nintendo – it’s time to approach Activision about this!

“Let’s put it this way I think we would all love to think that GoldenEye may make it onto the 3DS. Today we’re talking about the Wii, but yeah if you were at E3 and you played with the 3DS it’s a great bit of hardware and we’d love to see it on there. But we don’t know, there’re no plans yet. I think if Nintendo approached us we’d consider anything.” – Activision’s Julian Widdow

Do you care why Goldeneye is coming to Wii? If so read what Brian Pass, senior producer at Activision had to say about it below.

“There are a number of different reasons for that. One’s we have a partnership with Nintendo. It’s a great opportunity. This game was originally on the N64, so there’s the nostalgia factor for people that are Nintendo fans. So we wanted to partner with Nintendo for this. There’s opportunity. So, the opportunity on the Nintendo Wii platform is huge. There’s roughly 12 million Wiis in North America. But it’s not really a console that a lot of shooter fans are playing on. So we wanted to offer them their own first-person shooter, that’s unique and exclusive to that console. Why are people not playing shooters on the Wii? I don’t know. Maybe it’s because people don’t like using the Wii Remote and the Nunchuck. They don’t like using the pointing device. Now they’ve got the Classic Pro Controller. This is dual analogue stick. It’s got the exact same layout you find on PS3 or 360. You put this in a shooter fan’s hands and they instantly know how to play. We feel that the opportunity and the time is right. And partnering with Nintendo is a huge opportunity for us. We really want to tap in to the nostalgia for Nintendo fans, and take advantage of the opportunity presented by the platform.”

It seems that the 3DS has got off to a great start, not only with the public but with developers and publishers too. Thomas Tippl from Activision spoke with Gamespot and had this to say…

GameSpot: What have you thought of E3 so far?

Thomas Tippl: Well, it’s not my first E3. I would say there’s the usual excitement. It’s great to see that first parties are coming out with new innovations. I was particularly impressed by the 3DS, and it got a great reception. It’s a brilliant product. Nintendo’s figured out the glasses–or the lack thereof–are key. The integration of the 3D camera was a brilliant move. And if they also address the piracy issues they have and upgrade the copyright protection system, I think it’s going to be a big success and draw publisher interest to put more resources against publishing a game in this platform.

GS: So far DJ Hero is the only Activision franchise announced for the 3DS, but a lot of your competitors are already on board and completely committed with more games. Is there any hesitation on Activision’s part?

TT: No. You’ll hear more titles as they come.

Bungie, the creators of the Halo series on Xbox, have announced that they will be partnering with Activision in the future. It was a surprise back in 2007 when the developers broke their exclusive ties with Microsoft and now we might see their future games on Sony and Nintendo consoles. Of course on new games or IP have yet been announced by either party so far.

Here’s the press release.

KIRKLAND, Wash. and SANTA MONICA, Calif., April 29, 2010 /PRNewswire via COMTEX News Network/ — Bungie, the developer of blockbuster game franchises including Halo, Myth and Marathon, and Activision, a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision Blizzard, the #1 online games publisher (Nasdaq: ATVI), announced today that they have entered into an exclusive 10-year partnership to bring Bungie’s next big action game universe to market. Under the terms of the agreement, Activision will have exclusive, worldwide rights to publish and distribute all future Bungie games based on the new intellectual property on multiple platforms and devices. Bungie remains an independent company and will continue to own their intellectual property. Additional terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Yep, Wii owners are getting some Call Of Duty loving in the form of a port of the original Modern Warfare. While this is excellent news in itself, we’re a bit bemused as to why Activision have decided to release a version of the two year old original Modern Warfare rather than the upcoming COD: MW2 that the PS3 and Xbox 360 will see.

The developers of ‘COD: World At War‘, Treyarch are developing the game, not Infinity Ward the original developers. Of course the DS will be getting a version of the new game so why the Wii is going back two years is anyone’s guess especially considering the franchise has sold well on the Wii so far.

We’ll have more on the DS and Wii Modern Warfare’s soon so keep it here.
