While Japan are being treated to a lovely looking new shiny black Wii console and Monster Hunter 3 bundle, U.S. gamers (and more likely – all western gamers) are going to have to wait as a Nintendo rep from NOA has said there are “no plans to have other colors of Wii in the U.S.“
Of course this is baloney. It is inevitable that there will be other colours released elsewhere at some point, we’d stake our houses on it. The rep more than likely just forgot to add “in the distant future” to the end of his sentence.
With the company reluctant to drop the price of the Wii, new colours and game bundles are likely to be its strategy to boost sales in North America and Europe where the console is starting to slow at retail. Exactly like it is doing now in Japan where sales dropped have off much earlier.
If you factor this in with the fact that Nintendo sometimes likes to deny the obvious (remember denying a new DS model, two times days before they were announced?) then chances are high we won’t have to wait too long for new colour Wiis.

We already know a black Wii console is coming to Japan August 1st and we’ve seen images of the Monster Hunter 3 pack Nintendo will be releasing with Capcom. Now we get to see what the packaging will be like for the new coloured console. It’s… er… black! Very similar to the white box but darker, meaner and leaner. Actually it’s not leaner at all but it rhymed.
Still no word yet that the rest of the world will be getting new Wii colours any time soon, but surely it’s only a matter of time. We reckon the black Wii has to be one of the best looking consoles ever made and if we had more money than sense may even consider trading in our trusty white one for the black model.
Having said that Nintendo need to make some black Wii MotionPlus add-ons, otherwise we’ll just look silly!

Remember the other day when we told you about the new black Wii heading to Japan? Good, because that is it above in all its glory as part of the Monster Hunter 3 (Tri) bundle from Capcom, including black Wiimote, Nunchuck and Classic Controller Pro.
Personally we like the look of the black and hold out hope it will eventually make its way to the west, which it probably will.
Less likely to hit our shores are the sky blue wiimote and nunchuck that will be available to 5000 lucky Japanese gamers as part of a Wii Sports Resort promotion which you can see after the break (along with another shot of the black Wii). The blue wiimotes can currently only be won and will not be on general sale, though if you really want one you might see them on eBay for silly prices!
What do you think? Do you like the new colours or prefer the white?
