According to this Gamespot article, Nintendo have let slip to Bloomberg the 3DS will ship in the next three months in Japan. I find that hard to believe but I hope it’s true!
“Nintendo has confirmed to Bloomberg Japan that the 3DS is coming out in the island nation this quarter and that pricing and an exact release date will be revealed on September 29. Nintendo had previously announced that the handheld would be out in America some time in 2011 after confirming at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo it would be out this fiscal year. No dates for other regions have been confirmed.”

I was so glad that Capcom ported Okami to the Wii and the game was excellent controlling it with the Wiimote. Unfortunately sales were very poor and I thought that would be it for Okami goodness on Nintendo consoles (or any console as the PS2 game sold poorly too) but then came news of Okamiden for DS which was more than welcome news.
These games deserve to sell by the bucket as they are simply awesome! Capcom’s Motohide Eshiro has hinted that there could possibly be an Okami on 3DS too, but first the DS version needs to be well received and sell well. Fingers crossed…
“I actually had a chance to see and get some information about the 3DS yesterday and I think it’s a great system with a lot of potential for game designers — there’s a lot you can do with it. Especially from a graphics stand-point, there’s so much potential there. I’d like to be able to make some games for that in the future, but as far as being approached by Nintendo, I personally haven’t been approached by them to make anything for it as of yet. Maybe someone at Capcom has, but personally speaking I haven’t at this moment.
For Okamiden itself, I don’t think it’s unfortunate that we couldn’t make it a 3DS game. I’m very happy that it’s a Nintendo DS game because of the touch-screen. We wanted to make it really suited to everything you can do with the touch-screen, so we worked really hard to make sure that those aspects of the game are being fully exploited. That was the main challenge for us to overcome and hopefully when we get this into people’s hands and they start playing it, they’re going to see how great using the touch-screen is. Hopefully they have a really good reaction to Okamiden on the DS and start clamouring for a sequel. Then if they ask for that sequel on the 3DS, well… we’ll see what we can do.”

With Nintendo already saying that they intend to push their online capabilities further with 3DS, it would not be a surprise to see their leading game for the console having online functionality.

Rayman Origins is looking gorgeous, but at the moment it is only going to be looking gorgeous on HD consoles. However, the official game website has given hope that it is being considered for Wii and 3DS (as well as PC and iPad). Fingers crossed it makes it to at least Wii or 3DS if not both…

Square Enix producer Shinji Hashimoto has told Siliconera that the company are watching progress of 3DS to decide whether to make Final Fantasy V or VI for the console. Fingers crossed.
“As you saw from Nintendo’s press conference yesterday, there is new hardware coming out. We knew that was coming. We had to make decisions understanding that there were hardware changes in the near future and where want to put our resources…No decision has been made. Rather than creating [Final Fantasy] V or VI for the current DS we want to take a look to see how 3DS does, how it evolves, and then make a decision.”

This can’t be true can it? I sure hope it is. These screens have shown up showing Zelda: The Ocarina of Time apparently for the 3DS. This is only a rumour and has not been officially confirmed but let’s hope it’s one of Nintendo’s late surprises for the show this week.

Capcom’s European senior director of marketing Michael Pattison has said that fans of the developer will be happy with some of their upcoming announcements regarding old franchises, which they are planning .
Could this be an updated Megaman? Who knows, but all should become clearer next week at E3. Let’s hope whatever they have up their sleeve is for a Nintendo console!
“Capcom is very proud of its multi-million selling established franchises such as Resident Evil, Street Fighter and Monster Hunter. But we’ve also got some other franchises in our locker which we’re going to re-establish on the global stage in the near future. We’re not going to rest on our laurels and even with established franchises we’re going to try new things. We have quite a few surprises up our sleeves as we look to bring back some much-loved brands, create new ones and innovate with our existing line-up. I believe our fans will be happy with what we’re planning.”

Colin Sebastian of Lazard Capital Markets believes that a ‘Wii 2′ will be released in 2011:
“We note that Nintendo is widely expected to deliver a Wii refresh in 2011, well before Sony and Microsoft come to market with new platforms, although this is unlikely to represent the launch of a new generation. Instead, we expect Microsoft and Sony to leverage their growing online content and services platforms, along with new motion sensing controllers, and to a lesser extent 3D and Internet-enabled televisions, as three pillars for growth over the coming 2-3 years.”
Speaking with MCV, Colin also thinks that big things could be in store for the upcoming Nintendo 3DS:
“3DS could emerge as an E3 winner. Our conversations with industry contacts suggest the Nintendo 3DS is an impressive device, and is garnering support among third party developers.”

According to “off the record” sources that IGN spoke with, the upcoming 3DS handheld could be more powerful than we first expected. Nearly as powerful as the Xbox 360 and PS3 if this rumour is to be believed.
“Several developers that have experienced 3DS in its current form have reported, off the record, that it has processing capabilities that far exceed the Nintendo Wii and bring the device with abilities that are close to HD consoles such as PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. According to several developer sources, the 3DS device is not using the NVIDIA Tegra mobile chipset, a rumor that’s been floating around since 2009.”

The above is an image of what looks like a testbed for the Nintendo 3DS and was submitted to FCC by Nintendo and electronics manufacturer Mitsumi. Though this is very likely prototype hardware, it does indicate that the design includes a true widescreen supporting 16:9 ratio rather than the 4:3 ratio we currently have on our handhelds.
If the 3DS does end up having 16:9 ratio, that will make the rumoured Gamecube/Wii power that much nicer to look at!
