Vitality Sensor

Nintendo are always playing around with new ideas and I’m glad to see Wii MotionPlus support being included in the upcoming Zelda Wii. Miyamoto is quoted below talking about how the Vitality Sensor may be incorporated into future games:

“Whenever we are going to use any new device it is possible to expand the appeal to those who are new to the videogaming world. At the same time, however, it is also fun to think of ways in which we might apply that new technology to existing forms of gameplay – just like the way we are working on the new Legend Of Zelda together with Wii Motion Plus. As you become more scared, the enemies become even tougher. So maybe you might like to ask me to incorporate the Vitality Sensor into Zelda so that as you become more scared, the enemies become even tougher.” – Shigeru Miyamoto

Wii Relax

The most interesting announcement from Nintendo at last years E3 had to be the Vitality Sensor which Satoru Iwata briefly whipped out on stage, mumbled what it was and then legged it.

Nintendo have now trademarked ‘Wii Relax‘ in the U.S, following the same trademark in Europe last year and it just has to be related to the Vitality Sensor. Of course many trademarks are registered and never used but we bet our bottom dollar we’ll see this one put to use later this year. Mr Iwata claimed he would like to get the Vitality Sensor on shelves by July this year.

We can’t wait to see how they implement it with software though will it appeal to the masses like Wii Fit did before it? Time will tell.

Thanks Kotaku

Zelda Wii

In a recent interview with the Asahi Shimbun paper, Nintendo Co. President Satoru Iwata sheds some light on when we can expect to see the latest iteration of the Zelda franchise and also what to expect from the company’s generation handheld console.

Thanks to Kotaku’s English translation, Iwata’s interview revealed that the DS’s successor will boast much better graphics and possibly even Natal-style motion capture:

“[It will have] highly detailed graphics, and it will be necessary to have a sensor with the ability to read the movements of people playing.”
