In a recent interview with Forbes, Reggie has been clearing the air about where the company stands in relation to Apple as a competitor, new technology for their hardware such as HD and 3D and plenty of other topics.
Reggie Fils-Aime on Apple and their technology…
“There’s been no data to suggest an encroachment on our business. The iPhone has been out on the marketplace for just a couple of years. In the last two years we’ve set two records on our DS business, last year selling over 11.2 million units. So there’s been no evidence that we’ve lost any business to that competitor.
On the other hand, we recognize that consumers have a limited amount of entertainment time, and anything that takes entertainment time away from the Nintendo DS, DSi and Wii is a competitor. And so from that standpoint, we need to build experiences that are compelling and sticky, and that consumers can get excited about. That’s our challenge.”
There’s not much juicy Nintendo news around at the moment, so how about some “Red Steel 2” artwork to keep you going from those lovely people over at Ubisoft?
Nintendo have released a new HD trailer for “Metroid: Other M” following on from last weeks media summits where attendees were impressed by what they saw.
This Metroid title, co-developed by Nintendo and Team Ninja, focuses more on the story and life of Samus with the Galactic Federation than other Metroid’s have in the past and the clip above shows what we can expect of some of the cinematic FMV sequences of the game.
“Metroid: Other M” is out 27th June in North America and slated for a vague Quarter 3 in Europe.
Last week Ninty showed off the latest two new entries in the Wario Ware series, one for DS one for Wii. The first is shown in the video above which is “Wario Ware: Do It Yourself” for DS and then there’s “Wario Ware: DIY Showcase” on Wii. Both games give users the chance to create their own mini-games to upload to Nintendo who will then release them for other players if they’re good enough.
DS micro-games can be transferred to other DS players and the creations can also be played on the big screen too. With thousands of people submitting new challenges all the time it could mean you’ll never get bored of the never-ending updates. Great idea.
Human Soft announced a first for the Wii today - “HardGrip“. It is the “first extreme rock climbing game” for the console. no other details other than those found on the press release so far, not even screenshots.
What do you reckon so far? Great idea and will be brilliant or yet another low budget piece of shovelware? Hopefully the former…
Wired recently snagged an interview with NOA executive, Cammie Dunaway, where she talks about where Nintendo are going forward with respect to new hardware, new games, localization and much more. Grab a coffee and have a read…
Dunaway on other motion controllers…
“We created motion control and we’ll continue to be in motion control. Consumers don’t care about technology; they care about how the game feels. We’ll continue to focus on that. We’ve got 60 million Wii Remotes out there, and 10 million MotionPlus. Consumers today are having a blast playing with the Wii Remote and Wii MotionPlus. We’re pretty darn good at creating experiences that are about more than just technology; they’re about great feel, great gameplay.”

The latest Mario Galaxy adventure is looking every bit as good as its predecessor we reckon and Nintendo have confirmed that it will sound even better as Galaxy 2 has been confirmed to have orchestrated music. Nice.

“Trackmania TM” is coming for Wii and enables players to create their own tracks to race on. Ok so it’s not the Wii’s answer to “Gran Tourismo” or “Forza” but it looks like fun nontheless.
