Wii Video On Demand Service Launching 1st May (Japan)

Though launch line-up and pricing have yet to be confirmed, Nintendo have announced that Japan will receive the Video On Demand service for Wii on 1st May 2009.
The channel, otherwise known locally as ‘Wii no Ma’ will be much more than just a video portal. The service will benefit from a virtual living room where up to eight Miis can interact in real time. Through this hub all other services will be accessible all of which will be free.
In addition Nintendo said that video content will be downloadable also to the DSi (though not to other DS models) through an application downloadable from the DSi Shop called ‘Dokodemo Wii no Ma’. Also Nintendo say we might even see celebrity appearances offering special content at some point in the future.
No word yet when we can expect this service in other territories.
Video can be viewed on the Japanese Wii website.
